Ford S550 Prototype / S650 Mustang GT + Chevrolet Camaro Gen3 Supercar Updates & New Model Announcements

We have a lot of Supercars Gen3 news, updates and announcements to get through for stockists and collectors so let's get straight to it!

Ford Mustang GT S550 Prototype Gen3 Supercar Update / Cancellations & New Announcements

Back in October 2021 we announced the Ford Performance Ford Mustang GT Gen3 Supercar 2021 Bathurst 1000 Launch Livery in three scales including (ACD18F21M) 1:18 die-cast with opening parts, (ACD43F21M) 1:43 sealed body die-cast and (ACR12F21M) 1:12 sealed body resin.

Since that announcement was made, a new generation of Mustang was introduced globally by Ford, and therefore, adopted by Supercars for their new Gen3 platform. This means the Supercar Gen3 Mustang was upgraded from the S550 version (which is what the 2021 Bathurst 1000 Gen3 Launch car was based on) to the now current S650 version, launched at Bathurst in 2022 and is now on track racing in 2023.

Our initial intention with the 2021 launch car was to replicate that livery on the Mustang which would be ultimately homologated and raced by the category.

However, unfortunately the differences between the S550 Mustang and the S650 Mustang styles are significantly more than originally expected which means we have had to reconsider how we proceed with producing the 2021 Bathurst 1000 Launch Livery S550 model.

So in the interests of accuracy, we have decided that the best course of action will be replicating the correct S550 body shape for this model along with some additional new models which feature this shape.

Unfortunately this does mean that producing this model in 1:18 scale die-cast with opening parts is no longer viable due to the limited amount of models available to produce using the tooling. The 1:43 and 1:12 scale versions will no longer be going ahead and have been cancelled. This decision was made to enable us to allocate development resources to the Mustang S650 range (see more about that further below). Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Please find the updated details for the 2021 Bathurst 1000 Launch Livery and two additional exciting S550 Prototype models which have just been announced below:

We understand some may be disappointed regarding the cancelled scales and the change of the specifications of the 1:18 version, but we hope stockists and collectors understand the circumstances and our reasoning which ultimately led to the decision to produce this model in one scale accurately for collectors and turn our attention to the rest of the 'real' Gen3 Supercars range.

Development for this model is reasonably well advanced, we have already received the first hand sample which you can see in the images below and are expecting a first decorated sample soon. It's shaping up to be an excellent replica.

Ford Mustang GT S650 Gen3 Supercar Update & New Announcements

At the Bathurst 1000 in 2022, Ford Performance Racing and homologation team Dick Johnson Racing unveiled the brand new Mustang GT S650 Gen3 Supercar in an incredible white and blue livery with the iconic #17 on the windows and Ford hero Dick Johnson in the driver's seat to debut the new car in its first public laps around Mount Panorama.

It was a significant moment in Australian motorsport, especially so for Ford and DJR fans.

So we're incredibly excited to announce this model as our first release in our upcoming Ford Mustang S650 Supercar Gen3 range. It's scheduled to be produced in 1:18 scale die-cast with opening parts, 1:43 and 1:64 die-cast sealed body and 1:12 scale resin sealed body.

The above tooling and specifications for each scale will be what we have available to use to produce the Mustang GT S650 Gen3 Supercars racing on track now in 2023 and into the future. We will be announcing the first of our range of specific 2023 Ford team models later this year, those teams include:

  • Dick Johnson Racing / Shell V-Power Racing Team
  • Walkinshaw Andretti United
  • Penrite Racing
  • Tickford Racing (Excluding car #6 due to licensing)
  • CoolDrive Racing

As always, season models, special livery models and special winning models will all be considered for production and release.

Unfortunately the model development on the Mustang S650 Gen3 range was delayed for some time due to the lengthy Supercars Homologation process to get the real Gen3 cars on track. Further delays occurred as a result of the early season parity debate. Obviously this makes replicating the cars in accurate scale model form difficult for us. It’s critical to avoid proceeding too far down the development path without being certain that the cars won’t have significant changes, which in turn, affects the accuracy of the end models. Ford’s update from the S550 to the S650 Mustang shape for Gen3 is a great example of this.

All the concerns and issues that may have created problems for us with regards to producing the model cars are seemingly behind us now and we're full steam ahead with development. We will provide further progress updates as development, sampling, model tooling and production progresses.

Chevrolet Camaro Gen3 Supercar Update + 1:64s Now In Stock

Thankfully for us, the path the Chevrolet Camaro Gen3 took to get to racing on track in Supercars was much easier compared to the two different versions we saw from Ford, so there's no changes to our originally announced range of 2021 Bathurst 1000 Camaro launch cars. They are still scheduled to be produced in in 1:18 scale die-cast with opening parts, 1:43 die-cast sealed body and 1:12 scale resin sealed body.

We have also added 1:64 scale die-cast to this range which wasn't announced originally and is now available in stock!

The above tooling and specifications will be what we have available to use to produce the Chevrolet Camaro Gen3 Supercars racing on track now in 2023 into the future. We will be announcing our full range of specific 2023 Chevrolet team models later this year, those teams include:

  • Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus
  • Team 18
  • Truck Assist Racing
  • PremiAir Racing

Like the Mustang Gen3, season models, special livery models and special winning models of the Camaro Gen3 range will all be considered for production and release.

While we were able to fast track the development of the 1:64 Scale Camaro due to the homologation and parity issues not affecting the model in that scale dramatically, development on the 1:18 / 1:43 and 1:12 scale versions suffered delays, albeit not to the same extent as the Mustang Gen3. Pricing for both the S650 Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro Gen3 models will be consistent across all scales.

The development on the Camaro in these scales is currently more advanced than the Mustang, but we will provide further updates as development progresses, and more Gen3 Supercar updates and model announcements moving forward.

Stay tuned for more Gen3 Supercar updates and new model announcements later this year.
