After a solid first season which saw him take out the 2021 Indy 500 and IndyCar Rookie of the Year honours, McLaughlin kicked off 2022 in even greater style on the streets of St. Pete with an exceptional display of qualifying pace and race craft. With his first pole and win in the IndyCar series under his belt, McLaughlin spent the rest of the season as a serious contender, with the fast Kiwi taking out even more poles and wins across the rest of the year, truly announcing himself as a serious championship threat for 2023.
